Our 2020 grantees are incredible and powerful beyond measure. Their commitment to community care and creativity brought us hope and sustained us during a year filled with grief and rage. In a year of incredible adversity, communities leaned hard on us, with Emergent Fund receiving an all-time historical high in proposals. We went from funding $1.5 million to 77 total grants in 2019 to more than $3.4 million to 358 projects in 2020. 2020 highlighted what we have always known to be true: It is never a risk to trust and invest in the leadership of the communities closest to the pain who are creating the solutions.
